The impact of European law on social security matters becomes increasingly important. Therefore, it is important to be informed on these developments. Also information on foreign national social security systems is becoming more & more important in discussions on social security. So far there are very few journals which deal with European social security law. The objective of the European Journal of Social Security is to fill this gap. It will deal with 'social security' in a broad sense, which means that also benefits in kind & active labour market policies can fall under this heading, as well as issues in the border area of social security & other areas, such as taxation, labour market, private pensions etc. The objective of this Journal is to describe & account for developments in the area of social security at the level of the EU & also to report on developments in social security in the (future) Member States of the EU. The primary interest is on developments at the EU level. Secondly, the journal will contain articles on social security of Member States of the EU. These will preferably have a comparative element: a comparison of the systems of the two or more Member States, or a comparison between the situation in a Member State with a trend in the EU, or a study of the consistency of the situation with EU rules. The contributions are written not only by lawyers, economists but also by sociologists. Thus, the Journal will follow a multidisciplinary course & will, where possible, approach the subjects from an interdisciplinary point of view. Articles from a legal, economical & sociological point of view on social security will be published. The Journal will be aimed at academics & policy makers (including practitioners interested in academic discussions). Articles will be published in English, & English language assistance will be available. The Journal will appear four times a year, & each issue will consist of approximately 100 pages. Each issue will consist of: Editorials. These would normally be the responsibility of the editors, although they can from time to time be written by the members of the Editorial Board, or by external Guest Editors. Leading Articles. In each volume there will be four leading articles, each of about 15 to 20 pages. We assume a fifty-fifty basis for economic/sociological articles & legal articles, but this is a flexible approach. Book reviews. Documents. Very important documents, which are hard to get, can be included Judgments & notes to judgments.
