Tens of thousands of Americans are accessing healthcare remotely from medically underserved areas such as Arctic villages, Native Amer. reservations, prisons, & rural communities. Many more are being diagnosed, treated & monitored from ships at sea, battlefields, urban centers, & homes. However, only a fraction of the potential for technology to increase access to, improve quality of, & reduce the cost of the nation's healthcare has been realized to date. This report discusses factors that have affected the adoption & application of one of these technologies -- telehealth -- & presents findings that, if addressed, could lead to increased innovation, demand, & investment.
