Linking Technology and Curriculum: Integrating the ISTE NETS Standards into Teaching and Learning (2nd Edition)

This book is designed for educators interested in integrating the National Educational Technology Standards for Students established by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE NETS*S) into their classroom activities. In doing so, the ISTE National Educational Standards for Teachers will also be accomplished. The text provides ideas for supporting teacher productivity and regular classroom instruction with technology as well as creative ways to use technology in classrooms with students. We start with the authors' technology stories--how they got to where they are in using technology--and suggest that as you read the book you formulate your own story. In each story is something unique that may lead others in making decisions and trying new things. Following the stories, readers are encouraged to (1) locate technology in their classrooms and schools, (2) learn to use what students will have to use, (3) learn to use technology tools to make their own lives simpler, (4) learn to use technology tools with students, and (5) learn the legal and ethical issues surrounding the use of technology in schools. Ideas for using common technology tools in English/language arts, math, science, and social studies provide teachers with ways to weave technology into the content and technology standards with materials, equipment, and software usually found in the classroom. Integrated lessons also include standards in art, music, health and physical education. These lessons were collected from a variety of sources including the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), as in the first edition of this book, classroom teachers, colleagues, and several brainstorming sessions. The common tools include spreadsheets, word processors, the Internet, digital imaging, and hypermedia tools. Finally, this text presents content and technology standards, online resources, standards organizations and Web sites, and other resources to help teachers link technology to instruction in meaningful ways.
