The current curator of the Natural History Museum of Milan, Frederico Pezzotta began geological-mineralogical fieldwork in Madagascar in 1996 in collaboration with other institutions in Madagascar, Italy, and the USA. Several expeditions have continued the research that Pezzotta began 1994, while a student at at the University of Milan. To date he has carried out twenty-six research trips to the mineral rich island. Dr. Pezzotta has spent a total of twenty-nine months in Madagascar making geological-mineralogical surveys. In collaboration with local mining companies, he has visited classic sites and discovered new localities during his more than seven years of research on the island.
