AUTHOR

Trail, George Y.

SUMMARY

GEORGE Y. TRAIL, PhD, is an Associate Professor of English at the University of Houston (www.uh.edu) where he teaches rhetoric and composition. Over a more than 30-year teaching career, Professor Trail’s early interests and scholarly work in Modern British and American Literature culminated in his work in Late Victorian essayists and George Orwell’s principle that the basis of all writing is political. Rhetoric thus became, for Trail, the basis for written communication, whether overtly (as in the popular media) or covertly (as it appears in high” literary forms) persuasive in intent. His two books (Reading Writing” and Rhetorical Terms and Concepts”) concern themselves with the analysis and production of written argument in the world outside of the academy and are addressed to a broadly defined non-specialist audience seeking a productive rather than passive relationship to language as it is used to persuade.Trail, George Y. is the author of 'Reading Writing : An Argument Rhetoric and Reader', published 2002 under ISBN 9780976608516 and ISBN 0976608510.
