Poet, teacher, editor, publisher, essayist, playwright, fiction writer, and translator, Gary Geddes is well-known as Canada's best political poet. He has published numerous books, including the anthologies The Art of Short Fiction and the ever-popular 20th-Century Poetry and Poetics. Among his awards are the E.J. Pratt medal and prize, the National Magazine Gold Award, the Americas Best Book Award in the Commonwealth Poetry Competition, the Writers' Choice Award, the Archibald Lampman Prize, and the Chilean Gabriela Mistral Prize. He has travelled widely, lecturing and reading in a dozen countries, and his poems have been translated into Dutch, French, Spanish and Chinese. CBC and BBC radio frequently broadcast his work. Gary Geddes now lives at French Beach, near Sooke, on Vancouver Island. After teaching for many years at Concordia University in Montreal, Geddes headed west to recapture his roots, sail his boat, and write. In 2001, he published Sailing Home: A Journey Through Time, Place & Memory, a floating memoir which became a coast-to-coast best seller.
