SUMMARY

The Gulf of Mexico Program (GMP) was formed by the EPA in 1990 to develop & implement a comprehensive strategy to protect & conserve the marine resources of the Gulf. This report computes trends for nutrient inflows from 37 streams discharging into the Gulf of Mexico. The drainage areas of these streams represent about 86% of the drainage area to the Gulf from the conterminous U.S. The period analyzed varies for each stream, but generally includes water years 1972-93. Stations included in this analysis primarily are part of the National Stream Quality Accounting Network operated by the U.S. Geological Survey.
