It was time to go home. Kate and Amanda scrambled over the bank guarding the little stream at the bottom of Kate's garden, when Amanda suddenly stood still, a chill running down her spine as she stared at the water. It was not the stream but a mighty river, with a boiling and bubbling turmoil of swollen waters. The hill behind them that was part of the Hawthomes garden was now a towering mountain and no matter where they turned, they were surrounded by huge peaks spiking into the sunny mist above them. They had been transported back in time at the whim of dark forces, always happy to tempt those who do not heed warnings and positive arguments. Now they found themselves in the rough and unforgiving world of the Gold Rush to the Fraser Canyon, where law and order mean nothing and rotgut whisky is king. As they come to terms with what is going on around them, Kate and Amanda stumble on a devious and complex plan to attack the unsuspecting population of a settlement up river which will produce grislyand horrifying consequences. The girls are sickened and forgetting their own fears they vow to go and warn these settlers of their fate. Their journey along the menacing and unforgiving river that is the Fraser, is treacherous and thwarted by attacks by marauders, desperate to prevent Kate, James and Amanda from reaching their destination at all costs.Lancaster, Susan is the author of 'Hell's Gate', published 2003 under ISBN 9780973035025 and ISBN 0973035021.
