The introduction by James Sanders explores the history and urban character of Tribeca, including the arrival of the film community in the 1990s, the impact of September 11th, and the subsequent birth of the Tribeca Film Festival under the auspices of the Tribeca Film Institute (founded in 2002 by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal, Martin Scorsese, and Craig Hatkoff).
